Fishing off the jetty

We have fishing rods for guests to use, or you can bring your own. Cast your line from our jetty, where an abundance of smaller fish awaits your bait. Whether you're an early riser or prefer the tranquility of sunset, the jetty promises a picturesque backdrop for your angling escapades.

Fishing from Coral Beach

Experience exceptional fishing opportunities as the tide changes, particularly off the Coral Beach or the island’s point. Previous guests have reeled in Queen fish and squid from these spots! Simply grab a chair, an esky filled with drinks, and relax into your fishing session with a stunning sunset view as your backdrop.

Using our centre console

Embark on an exciting fishing expedition around the island aboard the Lodge's 16 ft centre console, available to suitably licensed guests. The centre console seats 5 people and can be used within a 100m radius of the island. Our caretakers can direct you to some points off the island where they’ve found reefs with some great fishing to be had!

A skippered trip on our barge

For the keener fisherman let our caretakers take you out on our barge to some secret reefs in the Bay or over to Abbot Point. Giant trevally,  queenfish, mackerel, red emperor, and coral trout await! There is an additional charge for a skippered trip on our barge.

Mud crabs*

Take the opportunity to go mud crabbing by placing our crab pots along the local river creeks. Join our caretakers as they guide you through the entire process, from setting up traps to harvesting and cooking your delicious bounty. Along the way, discover fascinating facts about mud crabs and indulge in the satisfaction of preparing your catch for a memorable feast!

River fishing*

If the tide permits and the season is right, we can take you up the river to fish for Barramundi - a delicious and popular fish for cooking on the island. The river is also home to mangrove jack, flathead, bream, grunter, whiting, Coral Trout, Spangled Emperor and Sweetlip.

*Boat usage with our caretakers may involve extra fees for stays shorter than 5 nights. Guests staying 5-6 nights receive one complimentary fishing or crabbing expedition. Guests staying 7 nights or more can enjoy two complimentary trips. For further information, please contact us directly.

By far my favourite island on the east coast and that is before we even start talking about the endless fishing possibilities.
